Emily Suzanne Shapiro
I am a clarinet and bass clarinet player specializing in contemporary classical and improvised music. I am London-based after moving from Montreal, Canada in July 2011.
I did my university training at the University of British Columbia, the Vancouver Academy of Music, the Vancouver Community College and Concordia University, studying with Vancouver Symphony Orchestra members Wes Foster and Cris Inguanti and contemporary and improvised music specialists François Houle and Lori Freedman. I also trained
with many more world-class artists at festivals such as the Domaine Forget academy of music and dance, the Belgian clarinet academy and the Katie Duck summer improvisation course. I perform written and improvised music regularly, compose and constantly explore other forms of music. My other musical interests include electroacoustics, jazz
and Balinese gamelan. I also enjoy playing in pit orchestras and have performed in twelve productions to date.
At the moment I am very new in London and am looking for new musical projects and contacts. I have a very strong background in both clarinet and bass clarinet technique, classical and contemporary music and love to explore. Get in touch if you'd like to collaborate!
